It is the 68th year of Independence, and we can’t be prouder to be Indians. Over the years, there have been a lot of movies that get our hearts filled with joy. These movies highlight the courage displayed by our Indian Army throughout history. - Indian 1996
This movie premiered on 9 May 1996 and was directed by S.Shankar. In this movie, lead is played by Kamal Hassan who portrays a role of an honest veteran, who decides to teach corrupt officials, ministers and bureaucrats a lesson to make them work honestly without taking bribes. Kamal Hassan plays the role of an elite soldier who learns a rare form of martial arts to defeat the British and later comes home and fights the corruption in his way.
- Border 1997
Border is one of the most known Indian Army movies because of its captivating action sequence and writing. Border premiered on 13 June 1997 and was directed by J.P. Dutta. In this movie, a band of 150 Indian Soldiers defend their post all night against the enemy with a massive number of 2000. A ferocious battle takes place between the enemy and our troop to protect the pride of our motherland. This movie is considered to be a landmark in Hindi Cinema because of its writing and direction. Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Sunil Shetty, Sudesh Berry, and Akshay Khanna gave an excellent performance that makes every Indian proud of their sacrifice.
- Lagaan 2001
Lagaan is familiar to every Indian because of its compelling storyline and superb acting by the actors. Lagaan premiered on 15 June 2001 and was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. The lead is played by Amir Khan who plays the character of a villager. The village is under British rule, and the British officer asks the villagers to pay double the tax they are already playing. Amir Khan’s character challenges the Britisher in a match of cricket to not pay the tax for the next three years. It is a heartwarming story which piques the interests of the watcher.
- Gadar: Ek Prem Katha 2001
Another classic movie that was released on 15 June 2001 and was directed by Anil Sharma. This movie is a classic love story in an era when India and Pakistan were in an all-out war. A girl belonging to a Muslim family on the other side of border falls in love with an Indian guy. After they get married, the girl’s father forces her to stay in Pakistan and puts the lead character played by Sunny Deol in an ordeal. He has to choose between living in his home town or moving to Pakistan to live with the girl he loves. The movie had a massive success because of the fantastic storyline and dialogues. Do not feel surprised if you find yourself shedding some tears after looking at the struggles that Sunny Deol goes through in the movie.
- The Legend of Bhagat Singh 2002
The legend of Bhagat Singh, a biographical period film directed by Rajkumar Santoshi was released on 7 June 2002. This movie beautifully portrays the life of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Ajay Devgan plays the role of Bhagat Singh and gives a superb performance capturing the essence of the legend.
- Swades 2004
Swades was released on 17 December 2004 and was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. In this movie, an Indian employed with NASA travels back to India to meet his nanny Kaveri. On seeing the condition of people living in the city, he takes it on himself to give them a better life using his skills and knowledge of working as a scientist. Sharukh Khan plays the lead and captures both the interest and hearts of his audience.
- Mangal Pandey: The Rising 2005
Mangal Pandey was released on 12 August 2005 and was directed by Ketan Mehta. It Is a historical biographical drama film based on the life of Mangal Pandey. He was an Indian Soldier who helped in sparking the Indian Rebellion of 1857 also known as The First War of Indian Independence. Amir Khan portrays the role of Mangal Pandey with his powerful performance.
- Lakshya 2004
A Farhan Akhtar directed movie premiered on 18 June 2004 and is a story of an aimless young man portrayed by Hrithik Roshan who joins the Indian Army. He escapes the training camp and later returns to prove himself to her girlfriend.
- Rang de Basanti 2006
Rakyesh O Mehra directed this movie which was released on 26 January 2006. It is a drama movie which also tells the story of Bhagat Singh through modern characters. The film shows the difference between the youth of now and back in the pre-independence era.
- Dangal 2016
Dangal is a beautiful movie based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat, a former wrestler who decides to live his dream of winning a gold medal for his country through his daughters. It was released on 23 December 2016 and was directed by Nitesh Tiwari, who takes you on an emotional roller-coaster ride with his beautiful storytelling.
