Every binge-watcher has faced an issue while trying to decide what to watch next. The endless list of movies and shows available make it a widely accessible platform among its competition, and its production is just cherry on top. But finding the right series or a movie is not easy at all.
To remedy this, Netflix is testing a new ‘shuffle play’ feature that could help all its users. The “shuffle play” button will be placed on the home screen beneath the user profile icon. On pressing it, Netflix will automatically play random content that it thinks you will like. This random content will be based on your previous history, currently watching and something that you have saved on your list.
Users have had mixed reactions to this new feature, which is currently showing up on the Netflix app for TV devices. Netflix reported that the idea behind releasing this new feature is to help users quickly find new content that they might enjoy. Promoting new content has always been an issue for Netflix that they have tackled various methods such as screensavers for television apps and promotional material showcased on the home screen. Netflix’s one of the targets is to make its interface more like a traditional television where something starts to play automatically once you switch it on.
The new “shuffle play” is another attempt to make the life of its user easier while simultaneously pushing new content. Last year Netflix came up with an idea to try out a shuffle mode that automatically plays a random episode of the title you click like ‘Friends’ or ‘The Office.’ Some users have also noticed a shuffle option called ‘Play Something’ in their navigation bar.
Netflix has confirmed these options being rolled out to test the performance and results of these variations of the “Shuffle Mode” concept. Netflix confirmed that this new “Shuffle Mode” is the only new variation being tested currently.
As the users have reported worldwide, this update is being rolled out slowly and randomly. The company said they are yet in the testing phase of the feature and still have to decide whether they will be rolling out this feature publicly or not. They still are on collecting database step and trying to update the feature for it to work in the best way.
